Parents
What is NOPA?
NOPA is the Nazareth Orchestra Parents Association. It was formed in 2005 to garner involvement support and invovlement in what their children do while playing their stringed instruments. Membership is automatic. If you are a parent/guardian of an orchestra student, you are a member of NOPA. We need your active participation in the orchestra and booster events to make this year a great educational and fun experience for our students. With over 100 students this year, all our fundraising and social events will be much more fun and easy if everyone contributes their time and talents.
Mission
The mission of NOPA is to support the students and orchestra director so that they will have a successful and enjoyable year. NOPA helps organize social and fundraising activities, maintain communications, provide chaperones for trips, assist the orchestra director, and generally help in any way needed. It is a way to help your children and their orchestra classmates succeed in their efforts to become better musicians. It shows the students that we care about them and helps all orchestra parents to be informed about what is happening in the musical life of our children.
NOPA’s Role
- Coordinating fundraising, including administration of product sales and setting special events
- Assisting the Director with administrative duties as needed
- Providing chaperones for the Spring Competition Trip
- Providing communication to parents through print and internet media
Newsletter
The organization has a newsletter that is emailed out to parents and sent via mail if needed upon request from parents with monthly updates from the director, fundraising activities, rehearsal schedules and other events of importants to parents and students.
Meetings
The organization meets one evening every month for about an hour on a Thursday from 7 – 8 p.m. at the HS choral room to discuss agenda items that need to be discussed or organized for fundraisers, trips, etc. All parents are welcome to become invovled in this group and are encouraged to help out.
Fundraising
Why do we have to raise funds?
Our students have expenses to participate in the orchestra. There are fees to participate in the local Festival competition, fees for participation in and transportation to the Spring Competition, and other expenses. We maintain a website and communicate with our orchestra families both electronically and through print. Very simply, parents and students must provide our time and energy to raise the additional funds necessary to have our students participate in this wonderful program.
Fundraisers count 100% toward the students’ accounts for the spring competition trip and other expenses that may arise during the year.
