I’ve had a busy time this year with my family and traveling a bit. We went to the beach for a week, my son and I traveled to South Carolina to visit family there, and for the remainder of the summer, we spent time around our house doing activities. Besides all the fun this summer, I even took some time to play my violin with the local Senior Orchestra which my mother is the concert mistress of. It was a lot of fun to play with this old time players and play some really enjoyable music (Leroy Anderson, George Gershwin, just to name a couple composers).

On another note, I was busy planning for the coming school year! We will have some exciting music to play for the year, some great performance opportunities, trips, and lots of work ahead of us to fine tune our skills on our instruments and excel more in our playing abilities.

For the first week of school, please make sure you bring your summer packets, if you are new to the program you will receive a packet the first week of school. Also, you will need a pencil for class and your instrument!!

I look forward to seeing everyone the last week of August!! Enjoy your last days of summer!

It was a hot day, but a fun one too. All Elementary string students should have received their certificate of completing the progam if you finished up to June and also a summer practice packet to keep working on those skills you learned this year.

Middle School The orchestra at the middle school finished up the school year with playing assessments, a great game of music bingo, and receiving their summer packets to work on music for the fall. The orchestra did an outstanding performance at the PAC Festival in New Jersey, where they placed Silver only missing a Gold rating by 3 points. Great job! On an ending note - don’t forget while practicing to really take a look at the American Medley piece to prepare for constitution Day in September of next school year.

High School The HS orchestra finished up the year with final assessments, a fun day of music challenges, saying goodbye to our seniors, summer packets, and a fun movie day to complete the year. Some of the students went on the Virginia trip, had some fun, had some rain, but overall we had a good time. You were an awesome class this year…keep on stringing!!!

It was a long year for all the students in the program along with Mrs. Sabol, but we made it through the year and are already planning for next year. Have a safe and fun summer! See everyone in the Fall.

Cello students should give Mrs. Sabol your cello after class on Monday to be transported to the HS.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - Elementary, Middle, and High School Orchestra students should report to the HS band room for 6:00 p.m. to tune and prepare for the concert. Elementary, MS/HS combined piece will be rehearsed first, then the elementary students will run through their remaining pieces on stage. Middle School and High School students not involved in this portion will stay in the band room and warm-up for the concert.

Concert will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the HS Auditorium!!!

Remember your concert attire - Elementary nicely dressed!! NO JEANS OR SNEAKERS!
MS/HS - white on top and black on bottom, nice shoes!

Practice, Practice, Practice!!! Make sure you work out any problem spots in the music to polish the pieces for the concert.
If you did poor on the playing quiz on Scales in Rhythm, you may retake the quiz before the end of the month.
Playing proficiencies will be done during the 2nd and 3rd week of May on the concert music learned this semester. A list of the sections to be tested will be posted for you by the first week of May.

String Technique Class
Performances at Moravian Hall Square - April 23rd
Begin work on Solo pieces which will be your final assessment for class for the semester. Work on your technique builder papers also, to work on finger work on your instruments.

Middle School Orchestra
Practice, Practice, Practice!!! Practice your concert music the next couple of weeks to polish and work on the problem spots to prepare for the concert.
Playing proficiencies will be taking place in May on your concert music - a list to follow by the first week of May.

Elementary
Practice your concert Music and work out the problem/hard spots to be better prepared for the concert. Practice your open string work on the new strings you just learned. Practice the music for fluency with the notes and rhythms.

Reminders to all
Concert is on May 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the HS - The rehearsal will take place for MS/HS on Monday May 5th from 3-5 p.m. Report time the night of the concert is 6:00 p.m. to the HS band and choral rooms.
