Hello everyone,
After a funfilled adventure in the new world of podcasting, I have taken my learning experience to bring you something new and exciting through podcast episodes just for string players. I’ve created two podcast listening episodes already. If you haven’t check them out yet, please take some time to do so. If you have any comments or would like to hear or learn about something of interest, please write to me in my comments area and send me a message.
The high school students in orchestra have taken the time to listen to the podcasts I have created and have given me some feedback. Some of the thing I asked the students were: 1) Why did you enjoy listening to the podcast? 2) What would you like a podcast to be about? 3) What did you find interesting in the podcast? 4) What areas were good or what could use some work?
The students feedback summarized below:

majority of the students loved the podcast, because they were informed about information they didn’t know about

they thought the podcast were great teaching tools and references of materials

the information was good and useful to them

enjoyed the music and examples given in the podcasts

future podcasts they would like to hear: history of string instruments, how to tune their instruments, how to play vibrato, podcasts with more detailed practice techinques (especially for their own concert music and hard sections), buying an instrument, podcast specializing in areas of key signatures, rhythms, etc. , and podcasts of different styles of music.

they would like video interaction for some of the podcasts to better understand the techniques – I can use slideshare to help develop these lessons for the students

the students mentioned the pace was good in the podcast, some dead spots that need to be worked out in future with a list or something to reference while podding

they liked the excitement and the music in the podcasts

they liked the extra list for the tips and techniques

they would like to become involved in future podcast – we will see with permission form parents and administration

enjoyed the interaction with their teacher in this respect

Podcasts are a great resource for the students and a way for me as a teacher to help enrich their learning experience in school and out. I plan on continuing these podcast and fulfilling the students request to nurture their learning experiences for the future. Thanks for listening and please provide feedback or suggestions as you listen and subscribe to the podcasts available at www.nastrings.org.

Enjoy your listening!

Mrs. Laura Sabol
